Coma cerejas pela sua saúde!
A Cereja do Fundão continua a dar que falar apesar de 2016 ter sido um ano de fraca produção.
O investimento no fruto, no desenvolvimento de novos produtos em torno dele e na sua promoção continua e há uma novidade: foi aprovado pelo Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional o projeto “Cereja do Fundão confitada com mel e carqueja como promotora de saúde”.
A intenção deste projeto passa por associar à cereja outros produtos da região, neste caso a carqueja e o mel. Desta vez espera-se poder-se criar um produto que tenha um período de validade mais longo, já que a cereja é um produto que perece muito rapidamente. Com um prazo de vida mais longo poder-se-á chegar mais longe também, a outros mercados.
Este é um projeto que conta com a parceria do Centro de Investigação em Ciências da Saúde da UBI, Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco, Centro de Biotecnologia de Plantas da Beira Interior e a empresa Cerfundão.
Espera-se, também, com este projeto investigar os benefícios para a saúde humana de uma dieta rica em cereja. Sabemos que é um fruto rico em antioxidantes, e serão feitas investigações nesse sentido assim como microbianas, anti-inflamatórias e anti-cancerigenas.
À cereja quer-se juntar a carqueja e o mel, dois produtos da região ricos em compostos bioativos.
Janeiro é o mês de arranque do projeto e espera-se que esteja tudo a postos para receber a cereja fresca a partir de maio, altura em que começa a campanha da apanha da cereja no Fundão. Este projeto conta com uma dotação de meio milhão de euros.
