Ser português é muita coisa. É ser hospitaleiro. Acreditar que somos os melhores do mundo e os piores também.

É defender o que é nosso com unhas e dentes porque as únicas pessoas que se podem queixar do que é português somos apenas nós, os portugueses.

Ser português é rilhar tremoços e beber uma cerveja numa esplanada num dia de verão. É juntar a família toda em piquenique, num qualquer parque deste país e acabar o dia com mais três famílias à mistura que por ali passaram e se juntaram. Ser português é viver numa eterna saudade, é ter um sorriso humilde e, mesmo na maior das pobrezas, tirarmos o casaco porque o vizinho está com frio.

É no verão que o que de mais português há em nós se revela.

São as nossas tradições e culturas que na época estival se manifestam com maior fervor. Porque é que esperamos ansiosamente pelo verão, e porque é que esta época é tão importante para os portugueses? Porque é nesta altura que o país se enche de vida. É no verão que abrimos os braços para receber quem está longe.

Não há noite de verão em que não haja um bailarico por aqui perto. Há sempre festa numa aldeia. É luz, cor, música e comida, muita comida, porque ser-se português é também saber comer bem.

Para os portugueses, principalmente nestas regiões do interior, o verão é o renascer, como se fossemos uma espécie de borboleta presa num casulo que espera pelo estio para abrir as suas asas e revelar as suas verdadeiras cores.

O verão é mais do que calor, é o renascer das nossas terras que, durante os meses de inverno, ficam quedas à espera que a luz do sol lhes desperte a alma e lhes devolva os filhos.

A Festa da Aldeia é mais do que uma banda no palco ou uma procissão no adro da igreja. É mais que luzes e pés de dança. É reencontro, lágrimas de alegria, abraços apertados e risos de pura felicidade. Vai muito além da tradição religiosa ou da pagã. É reunião. Reencontro de amigos e familiares. É a união de gerações e a partilha de felicidade.

Num bailarico de verão não se pensa em trabalho nem em tristezas. Não há doenças e a política é tabu. Num bailarico de verão comemora-se a vida, trocam-se olhares e investe-se em namoricos, não há novos nem velhos, há gente, e isso é o mais importante. Celebra-se o frango assado e a bifana, o vinho e a cerveja e agradece-se ao nosso santo do coração ter-nos dado mais um ano para voltarmos ao nosso ninho.

A Festa da Aldeia é mais que uma celebração e mesmo que, para muitos, seja uma festa popular, a sua essência vai muito além disso, alma que se sente mais quando estamos numa aldeia do interior.

No verão a população triplica e, normalmente, os filhos da terra voltam para a festa da aldeia, porque é nessa altura que todos se reúnem.

O bailarico de verão é mais do que uma festa. É o almoço em família. É ajoelhar na igreja e chorar porque conseguimos cá voltar. É segurar, com orgulho acrescido o andor, porque é uma honra levar nos ombros o nosso santo e o peso do seu significado.

É ouvir a banda marcar os passos na procissão.

É verificar que a nossa avó tem mais rugas e constatar que nunca foi mais linda do que agora. O bailarico da aldeia é música até o sol nascer, interrompida pelo sino da igreja que anuncia a primeira procissão do dia. É comprar rifas porque a bicicleta tem de ir para o meu Miguel. É o melhor fogo de artifício do mundo porque, nestes três dias, o mundo resume-se à nossa aldeia.

No final o adro fica vazio de gente. A música acaba. As férias entram na sua fase final e o mundo real e cinzento começa a chamar por nós. Para o ano há mais e cá estaremos para fazer o tempo parar durante três ou quatro dias.

A Festa da Aldeia é algo tão português que devia ser elevado a Património Cultural da Humanidade.

É tão Português como o Fado ou como o Canto Alentejano. E mesmo aqueles que dizem não gostar acabam por ser vistos por lá, a dar um pé de dança como se aquele fosse o melhor espetáculo do mundo e, cá entre nós que ninguém nos ouve, é não é?
