Sabe que há túneis secretos na Torre?
Quem visitar o ponto mais alto de Portugal Continental tem mais um atrativo.
Os Túneis da Serra da estrela voltaram a abrir as suas portas, desta vez ao público em geral. Poucos sabem o que se esconde por baixo do chão que pisam quando visitam a Torre, mas agora o segredo foi desvendado e os túneis subterrâneos que ligam todos os edifícios da Torre podem ser visitados.
São cerca de 200 metros de túneis que eram utilizados pelos militares da Esquadra nº 13 do Grupo de Detecção, Alerta e Conduta de Intercepção da Força Aérea. Desenganem-se os que possam pensar que se tratavam de túneis de defesa. Estas passagens serviam apenas de ligação entre os diferentes edifícios que existem na Torre, porque como devem imaginar, em dias de Inverno, que por estes lados são muito rigorosos, quando a neve atingia os vários metros de altura, as pessoas que trabalhavam aqui não podiam deslocar-se pelo exterior, sendo que estes túneis eram os seus corredores de passagem.
Estas passagens funcionaram até à década de 70 e agora estão abertas a quem as queira visitar. São cerca de 200 metros de túneis mas apenas 140 oferecem as condições de segurança necessárias para que as visitas possam ser efetuadas sem riscos.
A vontade de abrir estes túneis ao público surgiu por parte da Turistrela que em conjunto com a empresa de animação turística, Patorra, oferecem mais um atrativo a quem visita a Torre da Serra da Estrela.
Esta é uma visita que permite ver como funcionavam os túneis. Tratam-se de passagens estreitas onde ainda é possível ver toda a estrutura de energia que alimentava estes túneis. É como fazer uma espécie de viagem no tempo, permitindo aos visitantes terem uma ideia do que era a vida e trabalho dos militares que por aqui estavam há 50 anos atrás.
Este é mais um motivo de atração no ponto mais alto da Serra da Estrela. A visita custa cerca de 4€ por pessoa mas há descontos com direito a visita ao Centro Interpretativo da Torre.
